Even After 72 Years, 18 to 20 Percent People are Below the Poverty Line

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu advised political parties to come forward with long-term structural programs to speed up the country's economic growth, rather than bringing in schemes for the temporary benefit keeping in mind the populist and vote.

At the Meet and Greet event organized by friends and well-wishers in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh in the joy of completing 2 years of the post of Vice President,
Vice President Shri Naidu said that even after 72 years of independence, 18 to 20 percent people are living below the poverty line. And about 20 percent people remain uneducated.
The Vice President expressed his desire that political parties focus on improving the basic amenities of the people, ensure quality medical services and educational facilities, try to reduce gender discrimination and discrimination in society and urban and rural divisions. Mr. Naidu suggested political parties to be patient and tolerant of public opinion.
He said that political parties should respect the opponents and accept structural programs with an open mind. He said that resorting to violence or attacking someone unfairly is harmful to democracy. The Vice President called for an initiative to reform the legislature, executive and judiciary to make India an exemplary country in parliamentary democracy.
